Learning on the Internet

The internet has impacted my own learning negatively.  The internet is very accessible, easy to use, and contains a wealth of information.  I believe that the internet has impacted my learning negatively because the majority of the information on the internet does not come from a credible source.  Without the proof that a website is coming from a credible source, or that the author is an expert in the topic of discussion, websites are often times someone’s thoughts or opinions that cannot be distinguished from facts.  Many times I will type into “Google” or “Yahoo” a question I don’t know the answer to, and read the answer given as if it were the truth.  This is the reason why I believe the internet has negatively affected my learning process.

The sites that I visit regularly to learn new things are sites on News and Current Events such CNN or ESPN.  The internet is great way I am about to get updated with world and local news.  The news is also biased at times, and is not usually the greatest platform for learning.  I believe the credibility of the contents source determines whether the internet is helping or distracting me from the learning process.  The information and content that is being read is only as good as the credibility of the author.

Learning and technology must go hand in hand.  Even though technology can have negative effects on learning, the positive potential for learning using technology is massive, and offers many different avenues to spread knowledge.  I am looking forward to take Kin710 because I know it will better help me to use technology to learn, and better help me to teach others through technology!

When used to reseacha subject you filmiar to, or have a background in, I think the internet is a great source because you can quickly cut through all the bs and find what your looking for. But I agree that when you dont know much about a subject some of the answers you find will lead you astray.
